Starting pitcher Sergio Mitre will be out atleast four to six weeks with a forearm strain.  Mitre met with Dr. James Andrews and he gave him the bad news about his arm.  The four to six weeks is if everything goes as planned but I would expect it to be atleast 8-12 weeks to be honest.

Mitre had been planned to be the opening day starter for the Marlins.  Now the Marlins will look for a couple of pitchers to step up and fill a couple of rotation spots.

The Florida Marlins opened up Spring Training with a 16-3 clubbing of the Baltimore Orioles.

Sergio Mitre started on the mound for the Marlins but only lasted three batters as he gave up two walks, and and let another batter reach on an error.  Mitre left after having some tightness in his pitching elbow.  Probably just some standard spring training soreness.

As Mitre left the game, Andrew Miller came in and had to get an inning ending double play to get out of trouble.  From there though, it was all Marlins as the offense kicked into high gear.

Hanley Ramirez walked, stole two bases and scored on a throwing error in the first inning. Left fielder Brett Carroll delivered a two-run single in the second and another run-scoring single in the sixth, and Cody Ross drilled a three-run home run in the fourth. Alejandro De Aza capped the scoring by belting a grand slam in the ninth inning.

In an attempt to keep Sergio Mitre from going to salary arbitration, the Florida Marlins signed him to a one year contract for $1.2 million.  For Mitre that is a pretty good deal, and if he has a good 2008 season like he is capable of, he could earn a lot more in the 2009 season.

Good deal all around in my opinion.  Mitre could be the opening day starter for the Marlins and having your #1 only cost you a little over a million dollars is really good.  What do you think Marlins Fans?
