The Florida Marlins broke their four game losing streak on Wednesday night as they beat the Washington Nationals. It was nice to see the fish finally win another game even if it was just against the pesky Nationals.

Josh Johnson improved to 6-1 on the year as he tossed six innings. Johnson allowed six hits and two runs in the game as he pitched his final game of the year. I expect Johnson to have a great season next year as he did wonderfully for the Marlins this year.

Ryan Tucker gave up three hits and two runs as he made things interesting late in the game but the fish were able to hold on for the win.

Hanley Ramirez and Josh Willingham both hit solo home runs in the game. They were not the team leaders in the rbi column however as Jeremy Hermida and Matt Treanor both finished with two rbi each. Jorge Cantu and Gaby Sanchez had the other rbi’s for the Marlins in the game.

Good win for the Marlins and they can even up the four game series with a win against the Nationals on Thursday.

The Florida Marlins and Cincinnati Reds played a make up game on Monday afternoon and the Marlins played great except for one inning. In the bottom of the seventh, the Marlins gave up six runs and the Reds came from behind to beat the Marlins by the score of 7-5. Tough loss for the Marlins as it was a game that they should have won.

Ricky Nolasco was the starting pitcher for the fish and he ended up with a no decision. Nolasco threw six innings and gave up six hits and three runs. He did strike out five batters but also gave up a solo home run.

Andrew Miller was the lossing pitcher as he was charged with two runs while not recording an out. He is now 6-10 on the season. Logan Kensing and Arthur Rhodes both gave up one run in relief as well.

Four different Marlins players had one rbi each. Jeremy Hermida and Josh Willingham both hit solo home runs while Cameron Maybin and Matt Treanor both helped out with one run as well. The other two runs that the Marlins scored were un-earned as they scored on an error and a wild pitch.

Now the team will board a plane and fly to Washington D.C. where they will begin a three game series with the Nationals on Tuesday night.

It was all about the Florida Marlins on Wednesday night as they blew out the Houston Astros by the score of 14-2. I think the Marlins are playing the Astros as the right time as they battle through Hurrican Ike and everything that did in Houston.

Ricky Nolasco improved to 14-7 as he tossed seven innings. Nolasco only gave up five hits and two runs in the game. Both of the runs came off the bat of Hunter Pence who hit two solo home runs off of Nolasco. Logan Kensing and Jesus Delgado both threw one inning of relief and did a good job as well.

Jorge Cantu and Alfredo Amezaga both led the Marlins at the plate with four rbi each. Cantu’s rbi’s came via  a grand slam while Amezaga had a three run double and rbi single in the game. Hanley Ramirez also had a great game as he hit two solo home runs to finish with two rbi. Mike Jacobs also had two rbi in the game as he had a two-run single. Cameron Maybin and Cory Ross finished up the scoring with one rbi each.

It was a great night for the Marlins and theyw ill go for another win on Thursday against the Astros. Marlins Blog

It was a hug win for the Florida Marlins as they defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Wedneday afternoon. The 7-3 victory for the Marlins was the second straight win for the fish against the Phillies and it a great things to see especially on the road. The marlins appear to be acting in the spoiler role right know as they took two out of three games from the Phillies who are in the divisional race as well as the wild card race.

The marlins blew the game wide open with three runs in the top of the ninth inning when Dan Uggla had a two run double and then he was knocked in on a single by Wes Helms. Josh Willingham had a rbi ground rule double in the eighth inning as well. Luis Gonzalez added a two run home run in the game while Ricky Nolasco contributed with an rbi of his own.

Nolasco threw a pretty good game as he pitched 7 2/3 innings. He allowed seven hits and three runs while striking out eight Phillies. Arthur Rhodes and Matt Lindstrom pitched in relief to finish off the phillies.

Great win for the Marlins and now they will be off on Thursday before starting up a weekend series with the Washington Nationals.

It was a back and forth game on Monday night as the Florida Marlins and Philadelphia Phillies played. The Marlins came out on the short stick however as they dropped the game 8-6. The Marlins attempted a comeback in the eighth inning with two runs but still fell short and then was shut down in the ninth inning by Brad Lidge.

Anibal Sanchez pitcher terrible as he gave up five hits and five runs in only 1 2/3 innings. Sanchez took the loss and fell to 2-4 on the season. Andrew Miller pitched 2/3’s of an inning and was charged with two runs while Joe Nelson gave up one run as well in relief. Just a bad pitching performance out of the fish.

At the plate, Mike Jacobs and Cory Ross both hit two run home runs and finished the game with two rbi’s each. John Baker added a rbi sac fly and Alfredo Amezaga added a rbi ground out in the second inning for the Marlins.

Hopefully the fish can bounce back and take game two on Tuesday night.

The Florida Marlins beat the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday afternoon by the score of 5-3. The Marlins used two runs in the seventh inning to take the lead and go on for the victory. With the two run victory, the fish took to two out of three game games against the Braves.

Doug Waechter earned the victory as he pitched a scoreless seventh inning. Marlins starting pitcher, Chris Volstad pitched six innings and gave up six hits and three runs to get the no decision. It’s too bad that Voldstad got a no decision as I thought he piched well enough to get the victory had he got a little but more run support.

For the offense, Hanley Ramirez got things started in the third inning when he hit a solo home run to put the Marlins up 1-0. The fish would score two more runs in the fourth inning that tied the game at 3-3 when Jeremy Hermida hit a two run single. In the seventh win the Marlins took the lead, Cory Ross had a rbi single and Ramirez scored on a wild pitch.

Goodjob by the Marlins, they need to go on a nice winning streak because they are on the outside looking in right now for any post season hopes.

The Florida Marlins had a nice 4-1 victory on Wednesday night over the Atlanta Braves as they held the Braves to only three hits on the night. It was a very good pitching performance by Josh Johnson as he pitched eight innings and then turned things over to who pitched the ninth inning to record the save.

The offense got a single run in the third inning on a Wes Helms rbi and then two more rbi’s in the fifth inning on a Hanley Ramirez single. In the ninth inning, Dan Uggla added a solo home run off Blaine Boyer for the fourth and final run for the Marlins.

Marlins starting pitcher Josh Johnson was marvelous as he tossed a complete game and only allowed one run to score. That one run came in the fifth inning when Johnson gave up a groundball to shortstop and the Braves scored. Johnson improved to 4-0 on the season with the victory.

The Florida Marlins rallied and scored three runs in the ninth inning to tie the game but then allowed a run in th bottom of the innings and the San Francisco Giants beat them 6-5. That is a very tough way to lose a game but I will give the offense credit for coming back in the final inning and scoring three runs to tie the game.

All five of the Marlins runs came via the home run ball. Jeremy Hermida had a two run blast in the fourth inning to put the Marlins on the scoreboard. Pitch-hitter John Baker then hammered a three run shot in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game. it was too bad the Marlins only scored from the home run ball and they weren’t able to score runs any other way.

Matt Lindstrom took the loss as he gave up a rbi sac fly to Bengie Molina in the bottom of the ninth inning. Scott Olsen had started the game for the fish and pitched six innings. Olsen gave up nine hits and four runs as he got the no decision. Joe Nelson gave up two hits and one run while Logan Kensing pitched a scoreless inning in the eighth.

The Marlns and Giants will play once again on Thursday afternoon as they play the rubber game of the three game series. The Marlins could really use a win as they are five games back in the division.

The Florida Marlins once again lost to the visiting St. Lous Cardinals. On Thursday it was a 3-0 loss as Todd Wellemeyer shut down the Marlins offense and limited them to only four hits on the night. You can’t beat a team with only four hits in most cases, and that was the case for the Fish on Thursday night.

Scott Olsen tossed seven innings and gave up ten hits and all three runs to take the loss. Olsen struckout six batters but also gave up one two run home run. Olsen had problems with Ryan Ludwick who knocked in all three Cardinals runs. Logan Kensing threw the final two innings of the game and held the Cardinals to the three runs so he did a good job.

Luis Gonzalez, Jorge Cantu, Wes Helms, and Dan Uggla all had one hit at the plate but that was it for the entire team. Talk about struggling at the plate against a pitcher that you should be able to score atleast a couple of runs off each time out there. Hopefully the bats come around this weekend when the fish take on the red hot Chicago Cubs.

The Florida Marlins and Chicago Cubs kicked off a four game series on Thursday night and the Marlins were doubled up on the scoreboard.  The Cubs defeated the fish by the score of 6-3.  The Marlins sure had their chances in the 8th and 9th innings but were only able to push across one run.

Scott Olsen took the loss for the Marlins and is now 6-5 on the year.  Olsen gave up six runs on seven hits in the game.  Olsen ran into trouble in the 5th inning when the Cubs scored four runs while loading the bases.  Olsen gave up solo home runs to Ronny Cedeno and Henry Blanco in the game as well.

Matt Lindstrom and Joe Nelson held the Cubs down in the 7th and 8th innings as they pitched good out of the bullpen.

Hanley Ramirez got the Marlins on the scoreboard in the 3rd inning when he took Carlos Zambrano deep for a two run home run.  At that point in the game the Marlins were ahead 2-0 however they wouldn’t score again until the 8th inning when Luis Gonzalez had a rbi sac fly to right field and Alfredo Amezaga scored.  The Marlins had the bases loaded late in the game but they were unable to score any runs.  The offense just coudln’t come up with the big hit when they needed it.

Now they will turn right back around and face the Cubs again on Friday afternoon.  Josh Johnson wil face off against Ryan Dempster.  This could be a tough game for the fish as Dempster throws the ball pretty good at Wrigley Field.  Marlins Baseball Blog
