The Florida Marlins bats were silent on Monday night as they were only cable to come up with two hits and lost to the Atlanta Braves by the score of 4-0.  It clearly wasn’t the Marlins night at the plate as the looked confused up there the whole game.

Chris Volstad took the loss for the Marlins as he tossed six inning and gave up six hits and three runs.  Mark Hendrickson allowed one run in the ninth inning on a rbi double that extended the Braves lead to 4-0.  The run that Hendrickson gave up was a huge run as it meant the Marlins would have to score four runs just to tie the game in the 9th inning.

All the Marlins fans out there better hope that the bats come around and knock in some runs on Tuesday night or else they will be down 0-2 in the series.

The Florida Marlins lost to the Washington Nationals in a high scoring 9-6 game on Tuesday evening.  The Marlins and Nationals battled back and forth the entire game and this time it was the Nationals coming out on top for the victory.  The series is now tied at 1 game each.

Mark Hendrickson took the loss for the Marlins after pitching six innings and giving up ten hits and six runs.  Hendrickson had troubles keeping the ball in the field as he gave up two home runs in the game that accounted for five of the  six runs he was charged with.  Hendrickson is now 7-7 on the season.

Eulogio De La Cruz and Joe Nelson both gave up one run in relief before Logan Kensing was able to come in and finally pitch a scoreless ninth inning.

Hanley Ramirez had a huge night at the plate as he went 2-5 with five rbi in the game.  Ramirez had a three run home run, and then two seperate rbi singles in the game.  Alfredo Amezaga also chipped in with a rbi single of his own.

So now the Marlins will attempt to win the series on Wendesday as they two teams will play the rubber game of the three game series.

Eh, not a whole lot to blog about today as the Florida Marlins were one hit by Tampa Bay Rays starter Matt Garza.  Garza completely dominated the Rays the entire game besides one pitch to Hanley Ramirez in the in the seventh inning that Ramirez hit for a home run.

Marlins starting pitcher Mark Hendrickson didn’t make it out of the fifth inning as he only pitched 4 2/3 innings.  Hendrickson struggled as he gave up five hits and five runs in the game.  Hendrickson gave up one solo home run to Evan Longoria in the game.

Doug Waechter pitched four innings of relief and gave up four hits and one run.  Waechter gave up a solo home run to Ben Zobrist in the eighth inning.  For pitching four innings, Waechter didn’t do that badle, Hendrickson just put the team in a big hole by giving up five early runs.

The Marlins will welcome in the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday to start a three game weekend series.

It seems like our starting rotation is finally growing out of its growing pains as Scott Olsen, Ricky Nolasco, and Andrew Miller are beginning to pile up an impressive string of starts.

After the Marlins’ 6-1 victory over the lowly Mariners, Miller improved to 5-5 with an ERA below 5.00 for the first time this season.  At the end of April, Miller’s ERA was 9.12.  But May and June have both seen sub-4.00 work from the young lefty.  It certainly seems to be a better performance than former fan favorite Dontrelle Willis who is struggling in Florida (Lakeland, FL).

Meanwhile, earlier in the day Ricky Nolasco was name NL co-player of the week after going 2-0 with 1.23 ERA and 15 strikeouts.

Scott Olsen has been the staff ace all year long, despite only 4 wins.  His 3.27  ERA is by far and away the best on the staff.  It is important to note that Mark Hendrickson’s 7 wins are greatly appreciated, but his late May and June performances deny him from being a part of the Marlins’ Big Three.  (Also, it wouldn’t be mathematically sound.)

With a record of 38 and 32, the Marlins remain striking distance away from the Philadelphia Phillies at 3 games back.  If the back end of the rotation, Hendrickson and rookie Ryan Tucker, follows the Big Three’s lead, there would be no reason the Fish couldn’t catch the Phillies.

Two homers.  Two walks.  A stolen base.

This team will live and die by Hanley Ramirez.  When he is cold, the fish are cold, like sushi.  When El Nino (the second) is hot, the fish are hot, like fish ‘n chips.

Who are the chips?  How about Mike Rabelo, who’s 2-run homer in the top of the 9th might have single-handedly turned this season around.  If the fish quickly get out of this free fall they will prove to themselves of their resilience, the most important quality in this marathon that is the 162 games baseball schedule.  Rabelo’s homer might have jolted some life back into this sushi plate.

Take Kevin Gregg as an example, notching save number 11.  Yes, the same Kevin Gregg who seem to be a Philadelphia Phillies double agent.  Below the belt?  Maybe, but he’s struggling, with that pitching motion of his, it’s hard not to think he’s literally throwing batting practice.

So, let’s hope this 6-4 win over the Braves is truly the comeback.  Let’s hope Hanley, our #2, is alive and has gotten over the fact that he could buy a new golden toilet seat each time he goes number 2.

And, once more, it’s worth noting that Jacques Jones went 0-for-1 today in this pinch hit performance.   (He struck out for Mark Hendrickson, who’s batting average is nearly double that of Jones).

The Florida Marlins and the Arizona Diamondbacks opened up a three game series on Tueday night and if the other two games are as good as the first, everyone is going to be in for an exciting time!  The Marlins held on to beat the Diamondbacks by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday night.

Mark Hendrickson picked up the win as he pitched five innings and allowed four hits and only one run.  Hendrickson is now 6-2 on the season.  Matt Lindstrom pitched in relief of Hendrickson and pitched a scoreless inning.  Justin Miller then gave up a solo home run that gave the Diamondbacks their second run of the game.  Renyel Pinto and Kevin Gregg finished the game off and Gregg picked up his eighth save of the season.

Jeremy Hermida, Dan Uggla, and Luis Gonzalez all had one rbi in the game as the Marlins got runs in the third, fourth, and sixth innings.

The Florida Marlins were not able to beat the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night as they lost 5-3.  The Marlins tried coming back but were only able to score one run in the eighth inning when they were needed to score three or four.

Mark Hendrickson pitched five innings and gave up eight hits and four runs to take the loss.  Hendrickson is now 5-2 on the season.  Doug Waechter gave up two hits and one run as he pitched in relief as well.  Matt Lindstrom pitched a scoreless inning after Waechter left the game.

Cody Ross had a solo home run in the eighth inning for the Marlins.  The other rbi’s for the Marlins came in the fifth and seventh innings.  In the fifth inning, Hanley Ramirez had a sac fly to score a run and then in the seventh inning, Dan Uggla had a rbi single to center field.

The Marlins are now 23-16 on the season.  I see them bouncing back tomorrow and picking up their 24th win of the season.  Marlins Blog

The Florida Marlins finished off the Milwaukee Brewers with a three game sweep by beating them 7-2 on Thursday night.  It was a great series for the Marlins who beat a tough Brewers team.  The Marlins improved their record to 20-14 with the win on Thursday night.

Matt Treanor led the Marlins with a three run home run and three rbi.  Jorge Cantu had two rbi in the game as well.  Behind Treanor and Cantu, Jeremy Hermida and Wes Helms both had one rbi in the game.

Starting pitcher Mark Hendrickson only pitched 4 1/3 innings as he gave up seven hits and one run.  Hendrickson earned the no decision since he didn’t pitch the required five innings to pick up the win. 

Relief pitcher Logan Kensing got the win as he pitched 2 2/3 innings after Hendrickson was taken out of the game.  Kensing is now 1-0 on the season.  Matt Lindstrom pitched after Kensing and allowed one run in one inning.  Justin Miller pitched one inning in relief and did not allow a run.

The Florida Marlins won yesterday in Pittsburgh against the Pirates by a score of 10-4 putting the Marlins at 12-7 for the season.  The Marlins are still leading the National League East standings over the Mets by 1.5 games.

It was a very big hitting night for the Marlins. Hanley Ramirez hit a two run home run in the second inning.  It was Ramirez’s sixth home run of the season.  Josh Willingham also hit a two run home run in the game.  Dan Uggla hit a solo home run in the sixth inning.  Mike Rabelo picked up a pair of RBIs with Alfredo Amezaga, Jeremy Hermida, and Mark Hendrickson each getting an RBI as well.

Mark Hendrickson started the game for the Marlins and threw for eigth innings allowing eight hits and four runs with five strikeouts for the game.  Hendrickson picked up the win putting him at 4-1 for the year.  Matt Lindstrom was brought in to pitch for the last inning.

Tonight the Marlins will take on the Pirates again in Pittsburgh for the second game of the series.

The Florida Marlins scored one run in the ninth inning to take a two run lead, and then held on as the Nationals threatned and scored one run in the bottom of the inning before losing by one run to the Marlins.

Mark Hendrickson picked up his second win of the season as he pitche seven innings of three hit ball.  Logan Kensing, Renyel Pinto, and Kevin Gregg all pitched in relief of Hendrickson.  Kensing and Gregg both gave up one earned run in the game.  Gregg didn’t pick up the save in the game which was his second of the season.

The Marlins offense had 13 hits as the put four runs up on the scoreboard.  Jorge Cantu led the team with two RBI, while Jeremy Hermida and Josh Willingham both had one RBI.
