The Florida Marlins and Cincinnati Reds played a make up game on Monday afternoon and the Marlins played great except for one inning. In the bottom of the seventh, the Marlins gave up six runs and the Reds came from behind to beat the Marlins by the score of 7-5. Tough loss for the Marlins as it was a game that they should have won.

Ricky Nolasco was the starting pitcher for the fish and he ended up with a no decision. Nolasco threw six innings and gave up six hits and three runs. He did strike out five batters but also gave up a solo home run.

Andrew Miller was the lossing pitcher as he was charged with two runs while not recording an out. He is now 6-10 on the season. Logan Kensing and Arthur Rhodes both gave up one run in relief as well.

Four different Marlins players had one rbi each. Jeremy Hermida and Josh Willingham both hit solo home runs while Cameron Maybin and Matt Treanor both helped out with one run as well. The other two runs that the Marlins scored were un-earned as they scored on an error and a wild pitch.

Now the team will board a plane and fly to Washington D.C. where they will begin a three game series with the Nationals on Tuesday night.

It was all about the Florida Marlins on Wednesday night as they blew out the Houston Astros by the score of 14-2. I think the Marlins are playing the Astros as the right time as they battle through Hurrican Ike and everything that did in Houston.

Ricky Nolasco improved to 14-7 as he tossed seven innings. Nolasco only gave up five hits and two runs in the game. Both of the runs came off the bat of Hunter Pence who hit two solo home runs off of Nolasco. Logan Kensing and Jesus Delgado both threw one inning of relief and did a good job as well.

Jorge Cantu and Alfredo Amezaga both led the Marlins at the plate with four rbi each. Cantu’s rbi’s came via  a grand slam while Amezaga had a three run double and rbi single in the game. Hanley Ramirez also had a great game as he hit two solo home runs to finish with two rbi. Mike Jacobs also had two rbi in the game as he had a two-run single. Cameron Maybin and Cory Ross finished up the scoring with one rbi each.

It was a great night for the Marlins and theyw ill go for another win on Thursday against the Astros. Marlins Blog

The Florida Marlins rallied and scored three runs in the ninth inning to tie the game but then allowed a run in th bottom of the innings and the San Francisco Giants beat them 6-5. That is a very tough way to lose a game but I will give the offense credit for coming back in the final inning and scoring three runs to tie the game.

All five of the Marlins runs came via the home run ball. Jeremy Hermida had a two run blast in the fourth inning to put the Marlins on the scoreboard. Pitch-hitter John Baker then hammered a three run shot in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game. it was too bad the Marlins only scored from the home run ball and they weren’t able to score runs any other way.

Matt Lindstrom took the loss as he gave up a rbi sac fly to Bengie Molina in the bottom of the ninth inning. Scott Olsen had started the game for the fish and pitched six innings. Olsen gave up nine hits and four runs as he got the no decision. Joe Nelson gave up two hits and one run while Logan Kensing pitched a scoreless inning in the eighth.

The Marlns and Giants will play once again on Thursday afternoon as they play the rubber game of the three game series. The Marlins could really use a win as they are five games back in the division.

Marlins Baseball

The Florida Marlins once again lost to the visiting St. Lous Cardinals. On Thursday it was a 3-0 loss as Todd Wellemeyer shut down the Marlins offense and limited them to only four hits on the night. You can’t beat a team with only four hits in most cases, and that was the case for the Fish on Thursday night.

Scott Olsen tossed seven innings and gave up ten hits and all three runs to take the loss. Olsen struckout six batters but also gave up one two run home run. Olsen had problems with Ryan Ludwick who knocked in all three Cardinals runs. Logan Kensing threw the final two innings of the game and held the Cardinals to the three runs so he did a good job.

Luis Gonzalez, Jorge Cantu, Wes Helms, and Dan Uggla all had one hit at the plate but that was it for the entire team. Talk about struggling at the plate against a pitcher that you should be able to score atleast a couple of runs off each time out there. Hopefully the bats come around this weekend when the fish take on the red hot Chicago Cubs.

The Florida Marlins were hammered by the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night by the score of 10-1.  The Padres jumped all over Marlins starting pitcher Andrew Miller who only lasted five innings after giving up six hits and four runs.  The Marlins bullpen wasn’t much better however as they allowed the Padres to tack on six more runs in the game.

Doug Waechter was charged with five runs (three were earned) while only recording one out in the sixth inning.  Waechter served up a three run home run to Scott Hairston which really blew the game wide open.  Logan Kensing then gave up one more run and by that time the game was pretty much over in my books.

Jeremy Hermida had the only rbi for the Marlins as he hit a solo home run in the first inning off of Randy Wolf.  Other than that one hit by Hermida, the Marlins only had five hits while leaving 16 runners on base and striking out eight times.

It was a terrible day for the Marlins who just need to forget about it and come out and play better Wednesday afternoon as they still have a chance to win the series against the Padres.

The Florida Marlins lost to the Washington Nationals in a high scoring 9-6 game on Tuesday evening.  The Marlins and Nationals battled back and forth the entire game and this time it was the Nationals coming out on top for the victory.  The series is now tied at 1 game each.

Mark Hendrickson took the loss for the Marlins after pitching six innings and giving up ten hits and six runs.  Hendrickson had troubles keeping the ball in the field as he gave up two home runs in the game that accounted for five of the  six runs he was charged with.  Hendrickson is now 7-7 on the season.

Eulogio De La Cruz and Joe Nelson both gave up one run in relief before Logan Kensing was able to come in and finally pitch a scoreless ninth inning.

Hanley Ramirez had a huge night at the plate as he went 2-5 with five rbi in the game.  Ramirez had a three run home run, and then two seperate rbi singles in the game.  Alfredo Amezaga also chipped in with a rbi single of his own.

So now the Marlins will attempt to win the series on Wendesday as they two teams will play the rubber game of the three game series.

The Florida Marlins gave up ten runs in the fifth inning and went on to lose to the Tampa Bay Rays by the score of 15-2.  Now that is an old fashioned butt kicking that the Marlins will just have to forget about before they head to the ballpark on Thursday.  It will now take a Marlins win on Thursday to avoid the three game sweep by their neightbors to the North.

Starting pitcher Ryan Tucker only lasted four innings as he gave up eight hits and seven runs including two home runs.  Carl Crawford took Tucker deep twice in the game including a three run shot and a solo home run.  Tucker was charged with three more runs in the fifth inning as well.

Eulogio De La Cruz gave up six more runs in the fifth inning after he came in for Tucker.  De La Cruz gave up a two run home run Evan Longoria and then all hell broke loose as the Rays pushed across four more runs to blow the game wide open.  Logan Kensing pitched the fifth and sixth innings and gave up one run.  Renyel Pinto, Justin Miller, and Kevin Gregg all pitched one inning of relief after Kensing left the game.  Miller gave up a solo home run to Ben Zobrist.  It was like the Marlins pitchers didn’t know how to throw the ball and get people out it.

Not that it really mattered but Mike Jacobs hit a solo home run in the sixth inning and then Dan Uggla had a rbi single in the eighth inning.  Matt Treanor scored on an error in the ninth inning to make the score 15-3.

The Marlins lost the final game of a grueling 9 game road trip, 7-1 to Justin Duchscherer and the Oakland A’s. Andrew Miller suffered the loss to see his record fall to 5-6, but the real culprit was The Marlins’ porous defense which set the stage for most of the A’s runs. A booted ball by Wes Helms at 3rd base and a nightmarish game behind the plate by Mike Rabelo helped the A’s get to Miller early, and Duchscherer did the rest, holding the potent Marlin’s offense to just one run in 7 2/3 innings.

The game started well enough for The Fish with Jeremy Hermida hitting his eighth HR in the first inning, but it was all down hill from there. The A’s tied the game in the bottom of the first helped by a Wes Helms boot of a DP grounder. Then in the bottom of the third, all the wheels came off for Miller & the Marlins. The A’s scored four times without any real good hits, taking advantage of a passed ball by Rabelo, and then a brain lock by the Marlins catcher on a first to home double play ball. Marlins first baseman Jorge Cantu fielded a grounder, stepped on first and threw home to Rabelo who had plenty of time to tag the runner coming in from third. But he thought the force play was in effect, so he merely stepped on the plate and did not tag the runner. The run scored, and the following A’s batter blooped a lazy pop up behind 1st base that scored two more runs, and you could have shut your TV off right there. I wish I had done so; that way I would have missed another ineffective relief performance by Matt Lindstrom and Logan Kensing later in the game.

At any rate, the Fish end the road trip with a 4-5 record and actually picked up ground on the Phillies, who lost again, their fifth straight defeat. The Marlins are just one game out of first place as they head home to start a three game series Tuesday with Tampa Bay.

The Florida Marlins beat the Arizona Diamondbacks by the score of 4-0 on Thursday night and completed a three game sweep of the Diamondbacks.  Now that was a great sweep for the Marlins who are playing some good baseball right now.

Andrew Miller improved his record to 5-3 on season as he picked up the win for the Marlins.  Miller tossed seven innings while only giving up five hits.  Logan Kensing and Justin Miller both tossed a inning each without allowing a run.

Jorge Cantu and Wes Helms led the Marlins with two rbi each in the game.  Cantu had a rbi ground out in the first inning and then a rbi single in the seventh inning.  Helms got his rbi in the seventh inning on a rbi double.

The Florida Marlins had an awesome comeback in the top of the ninth inning as they came back from a 6-0 defecit to tie the game at 6-6.  It wasn’t enough however as the Marlins still lost the game in ten innings to the Cincinnati Reds by the score of 7-6.

Renyel Pinto gave up a rbi single in the tenth inning to take the loss for the Marlins.  None of the Marlins pitchers had that good of a night as Ricky Nolasco gave up two runs, Logan Kensing gave up one run, Justin Miller gave up three runs.

At the plate for the Marlins, Cody Ross had the big hit which was a three run home run in the ninth inning that tied the game.   Matt Treanor had two rbi and Luis Gonzalez had one rbi.
