Luis Gonzalez and the Florida Marlins have agreed on a one year contract that will be worth $2 million in guranteed money.  Gonzalez could also earn another million dollars with incentives.  I really doube he will however as the Marlins are pretty well stocked up in the outfield positions.

I don’t know why the Marlins signed Gonzalez other then to to support some of the younger players.  Gonzalez is at the end of his career, and I think this will be his last stop in baseball.  I just don’t see him having much value with the Marlins.

In an attempt to keep Sergio Mitre from going to salary arbitration, the Florida Marlins signed him to a one year contract for $1.2 million.  For Mitre that is a pretty good deal, and if he has a good 2008 season like he is capable of, he could earn a lot more in the 2009 season.

Good deal all around in my opinion.  Mitre could be the opening day starter for the Marlins and having your #1 only cost you a little over a million dollars is really good.  What do you think Marlins Fans?

The Florida Marlins really needed to pick up a starting pitcher who could eat up some innings and they feel that they have found that pitcher.  Mark Hendrickson has been signed to a one year contract worth $1.5 million.

Hendrickson played last year with the Los Angeles Dodgers where he went 4-8 with a 5.21 ETA.  But the good thing is he pitched 122 innings for the Dodgers.

I really think this is a good cheap pickup for the Dodgers.  Hendrickson is a veteran that could possibly show the younger players some things.

A brand new Florida Marlins Baseball Blog has hit the Internet!  Marlinshomeplate.Com will be blogging about the Florida Marlins starting in 2008 and will have new articles up every other day atleast.  Look for game reviews, marlins draft and trade rumors, and look to find some great deals on Marlins merchandise and tickets!

We are all hoping that the Florida Marlins can get things turned around.  It is going to be a tough season in 2008 I think however.  Losing Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis to the Detroit Tigers is really going to hurt this ball club.  Then there is always talk going on about the new baseball stadium.  Who knows if that will ever happen though.

No matter what though, we will be here blogging about the Marlins, and hope you choose to come back each and every day.  Please leave comments as well, as we love to hear other Marlins fans opinions!
