Well Marlins faithful, it appears I was right again.  Ryan Tucker pitched five innings and gave up only one earned run during the Marlins’ 9-2 victory over Dusty Baker’s Fish-Eating Reds.  That’s two in a row against a team that beat us in the opponents’ first four games!  Tucker is our D-Train of ’03, our Livan of ’97.  “I love you Miami!”

Tucker was tearing up the Southern League with fellow 2005 draftee Chris Volstad.  Lucky for him, Volstad recently endured a minor injury, making the choice for this year’s messiah a no brainer.  Although Tucker did walk 5 batters and seemed a bit nervous, he was without question the giver breath to the Marlins’ offense, who smashed nine runs and played error-less baseball for nine innings.

Am I anointing Tucker too soon?  Perhaps.  But we really need him don’t we?  Burke Badenhop seems to be better suited for long relief — a mop-up reliever, albeit a quality mopper.  The season will tell if Tucker is the real deal or not, but for now, let’s believe in this Mother Tucker.

Two homers.  Two walks.  A stolen base.

This team will live and die by Hanley Ramirez.  When he is cold, the fish are cold, like sushi.  When El Nino (the second) is hot, the fish are hot, like fish ‘n chips.

Who are the chips?  How about Mike Rabelo, who’s 2-run homer in the top of the 9th might have single-handedly turned this season around.  If the fish quickly get out of this free fall they will prove to themselves of their resilience, the most important quality in this marathon that is the 162 games baseball schedule.  Rabelo’s homer might have jolted some life back into this sushi plate.

Take Kevin Gregg as an example, notching save number 11.  Yes, the same Kevin Gregg who seem to be a Philadelphia Phillies double agent.  Below the belt?  Maybe, but he’s struggling, with that pitching motion of his, it’s hard not to think he’s literally throwing batting practice.

So, let’s hope this 6-4 win over the Braves is truly the comeback.  Let’s hope Hanley, our #2, is alive and has gotten over the fact that he could buy a new golden toilet seat each time he goes number 2.

And, once more, it’s worth noting that Jacques Jones went 0-for-1 today in this pinch hit performance.   (He struck out for Mark Hendrickson, who’s batting average is nearly double that of Jones).

What at the odds that Luis Castillo, Jose Reyes, Endy Chavez, Mike Rabelo, Alfredo Amezaga, and Cody Ross (twice) would hit home runs in the same game? The chances are so small that Vegas would never take bets. However, as exciting as a game it was for unlikely power sources, the Marlins come up with a loss as the Mets hitters take advantage of some clutch hitting.

Perhaps the most unlikely hit came from Fernando Tatis, who seemed to be out of baseball until this week. Yes, the Fernando Tatis that hit two grand slams with the Cardinals in 1999 (another “unlikely” event). Fernando Tatis, a player with one career year and nothing else — the kind of year that makes one recall Brady Anderson’s 1996 season — came through in the bottom of the 12th with a two RBI double of Justin Miller. These unlikely events is why we love baseball, isn’t it?

Notes: Jacque Jones went 0 for 5, bringing his down batting average as a Marlin to .111. Meanwhile, Josh Willingham waits for his back to heal and Dallas McPherson (like Jones, a left-handed hitter) waits for the front office to pick up the phone.

The Florida Marlins beat the Arizona Diamondbacks by the score of 4-0 on Thursday night and completed a three game sweep of the Diamondbacks.  Now that was a great sweep for the Marlins who are playing some good baseball right now.

Andrew Miller improved his record to 5-3 on season as he picked up the win for the Marlins.  Miller tossed seven innings while only giving up five hits.  Logan Kensing and Justin Miller both tossed a inning each without allowing a run.

Jorge Cantu and Wes Helms led the Marlins with two rbi each in the game.  Cantu had a rbi ground out in the first inning and then a rbi single in the seventh inning.  Helms got his rbi in the seventh inning on a rbi double.

The Florida Marlins and the Arizona Diamondbacks opened up a three game series on Tueday night and if the other two games are as good as the first, everyone is going to be in for an exciting time!  The Marlins held on to beat the Diamondbacks by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday night.

Mark Hendrickson picked up the win as he pitched five innings and allowed four hits and only one run.  Hendrickson is now 6-2 on the season.  Matt Lindstrom pitched in relief of Hendrickson and pitched a scoreless inning.  Justin Miller then gave up a solo home run that gave the Diamondbacks their second run of the game.  Renyel Pinto and Kevin Gregg finished the game off and Gregg picked up his eighth save of the season.

The Florida Marlins had an awesome comeback in the top of the ninth inning as they came back from a 6-0 defecit to tie the game at 6-6.  It wasn’t enough however as the Marlins still lost the game in ten innings to the Cincinnati Reds by the score of 7-6.

Renyel Pinto gave up a rbi single in the tenth inning to take the loss for the Marlins.  None of the Marlins pitchers had that good of a night as Ricky Nolasco gave up two runs, Logan Kensing gave up one run, Justin Miller gave up three runs.

At the plate for the Marlins, Cody Ross had the big hit which was a three run home run in the ninth inning that tied the game.   Matt Treanor had two rbi and Luis Gonzalez had one rbi.

Marlins Homeplate is currently seeking a Marlins fan that would like to write game recaps for the games.  Recaps can be done right after the game is over or the next morning.  If you are interested be us the contact us link at the top of the site to email us.

The Florida Marlins were not able to beat the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night as they lost 5-3.  The Marlins tried coming back but were only able to score one run in the eighth inning when they were needed to score three or four.

Mark Hendrickson pitched five innings and gave up eight hits and four runs to take the loss.  Hendrickson is now 5-2 on the season.  Doug Waechter gave up two hits and one run as he pitched in relief as well.  Matt Lindstrom pitched a scoreless inning after Waechter left the game.

Cody Ross had a solo home run in the eighth inning for the Marlins.  The other rbi’s for the Marlins came in the fifth and seventh innings.  In the fifth inning, Hanley Ramirez had a sac fly to score a run and then in the seventh inning, Dan Uggla had a rbi single to center field.

The Marlins are now 23-16 on the season.  I see them bouncing back tomorrow and picking up their 24th win of the season.  Marlins Blog

The Florida Marlins battled back with three runs in the eighth inning but they needed atleast one more to extend the game as they went onto lose to the Cincinnati Reds 8-7.  I’ll give the team credit for coming back, they just needed one more big hit to take the lead, they just didn’t get it done tonight.

Hanley Ramirez, Jeremy Hermida, and Dan Uggla all hit home runs in the game.  All three of the home runs were solo shots however.  Besides those three rbi’s for the Marlins, Luis Gonzalez and Mike Rabelo also had one rbi each in the game.

Taylor Tankersley took the loss which dropped his record to 0-1 on the season.  Tankersley was pitching in relief of starting pitcher Burke Badenhop who threw six innings.  Badenhop left the game after giving up six hits and four runs.  Three of the four runs were earned.

With the loss, the Marlins dropped to to 23-15 on the season.  Marlins Blog

The Florida Marlins finished off the Milwaukee Brewers with a three game sweep by beating them 7-2 on Thursday night.  It was a great series for the Marlins who beat a tough Brewers team.  The Marlins improved their record to 20-14 with the win on Thursday night.

Matt Treanor led the Marlins with a three run home run and three rbi.  Jorge Cantu had two rbi in the game as well.  Behind Treanor and Cantu, Jeremy Hermida and Wes Helms both had one rbi in the game.

Starting pitcher Mark Hendrickson only pitched 4 1/3 innings as he gave up seven hits and one run.  Hendrickson earned the no decision since he didn’t pitch the required five innings to pick up the win.

Relief pitcher Logan Kensing got the win as he pitched 2 2/3 innings after Hendrickson was taken out of the game.  Kensing is now 1-0 on the season.  Matt Lindstrom pitched after Kensing and allowed one run in one inning.  Justin Miller pitched one inning in relief and did not allow a run.
