Spring training is a fun time for baseball fans. We get to follow newcomers trying to make the team, and watch returning players work on their form. Often amazing numbers are put up, as unknown players create buzz by hitting, or pitching at high levels, but ultimately spring stats are usually not good predictors of future success, or failures. I offer the following players as evidence of this point:   1. Gabe Gross The former Auburn QB had an amazing spring training for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2005.

Chris Young pitched five innings and the New York Mets beat the Florida Marlins 6-3 Wednesday in the final game of spring training for both teams. The clubs meet Friday night in Florida on opening day. Young, set to be the Mets' fourth starter, gave up two earned runs on three hits and four walks.

Ricky Nolasco was pleased after his latest spring outing. Nolasco, making his fourth appearance, gave up two hits in six strong innings and the Florida Marlins used a four-run third inning to beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-1 on Monday. Nolasco retired 15 consecutive batters during one stretch before Ryan Theriot's single in the sixth.

Florida Marlins ace Josh Johnson wasn't with the Marlins on Sunday, March 27, for their 6-4 spring training win over the Washington Nationals, spurred by Chris Coghlan's go-ahead, bases-loaded triple in the seventh inning. It was a game Johnson was originally scheduled to start. Instead, he was pitching for Florida's AAA-affiliate New Orleans Zephyrs in a minor league tune-up game against the Marlins AA-affiliate Jacksonville Suns squad just down the road from the Grapefruit League game being played in Viera, Florida.

The St. Louis Cardinals got off to a terrific start thanks to Albert Pujols and Chris Carpenter. Ryan Franklin just couldn't close it out. Pujols homered twice and Carpenter pitched a spring-high six innings, but the Florida Marlins rallied for three runs off Franklin in the bottom of the ninth to beat St.
