Infielder Greg Dobbs and right-hander Shawn Hill have signed minor-league contracts with the Florida Marlins and received invitations to spring training. Dobbs batted .196 in 88 games with Philadelphia last year. He is a career .260 hitter with 31 homers and 64 pinch-hits in seven big league seasons. Hill underwent elbow ligament replacement surgery for the second time in June 2009.

A three-game series between the Florida Marlins and Mariners from June 24-26 has been moved from Miami to Seattle because of a U2 concert. Major League Baseball said Thursday the change was made because of the scheduling conflict at Sun Life Stadium. The rock band U2 is scheduled to play at the stadium on June 29 and the Marlins must vacate the stadium to allow setup time for the concert.

The St. Louis Cardinals officially start spring training when they play the Florida Marlins Feb. 28 in Jupiter, Florida. I was a Cardinals' fan in utero as I was born in St. Louis. My love for the Cardinals has never diminished even through the quasi-lean years between 1982 and 2006. Spring training for 2011 will be bittersweet for many Cardinals' fans. Albert Pujols, the best all-around player in Major League Baseball, has set a deadline of the beginning of spring training for contract talks if the Cards want to keep him.

The St. Louis Cardinals begin spring training games against other teams Feb. 28, 2011 when they take on the Florida Marlins at Roger Dean Stadium . After team workouts, practices and new faces arrive, the one-a-day games last for the entire month of March. Since I live in southwest Missouri I probably won't get to see the Cardinals play in Florida. But there is a chance to catch them right before the regular season starts if you live near Springfield, Mo.
